Historically, masculinity has been associated with toughness and stoicism, while candles have been linked to softness and sensitivity. The growing popularity of candles among men of all ages challenges these stereotypes by demonstrating that masculinity can encompass a wide range of interests and preferences.

In today’s fast-paced world, stress is a common companion for many. Men, just like anyone else, seek effective ways to unwind. Candles provide a simple yet powerful means of relaxation. I do get quite a few men attending the candle making experience and their knowledge of fragrance oils is amazing.

Modern interior design often emphasises minimalism and a cosy ambiance, elements that candles complement perfectly. Men are increasingly interested in curating their living spaces to reflect their tastes and preferences. Candles, with their elegant designs and soothing light, add a sophisticated touch to any room, enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.

Candles are often used in mindfulness practices and meditation. The act of lighting a candle and focusing on its flame (Trataka or Yogic gazing) can serve as a grounding ritual, helping to centre the mind and improve mental clarity.

Some of the popular fragrances that men like –

  1. Fragrances like Thyme & Cedarwood , sandalwood, and pine (although a little Toilet Duck scent for me) evoke the outdoors and a sense of adventure. These scents are grounding and rustic. One of the ladies at the workshops likened this fragrance to ‘a man coming out the shower’- just setting the scene for you!
  2.  Scents such as cinnamon, clove, and amber offer a warm and inviting aroma. These spices are often associated with comfort and can make a space feel more welcoming.
  3.  Fresh, clean scents like bergamot, lemon, and eucalyptus are invigorating and can help clear the mind. Making your space feel energised and clean.
  4. More unconventional but increasingly popular are scents like leather and tobacco. We have a gorgeous Vanilla & Tobacco fragrance in the candle making experience. These fragrances have a deep, rich aroma that can add a touch of sophistication and masculinity to a space.
  5. Scents such as sage, basil, candlemakers use a lovely Blackberry & Bay in the candle workshops. Vetiver which is grassy are earthy and grounding. These fragrances can create a calming environment that feels connected to nature.
